On January 3, 2021, a former GlaxoSmithKline Plc scientist acknowledged contriving with a Chinese pharmaceutical firm by stealing trade secrets from her employers at the British drug manufacturer.
Lucy Xi, 44, pleaded guilty in federal court in Philadelphia, becoming the fourth individual to acknowledge misconduct in connection with a plot to utilize GSK’s trade secrets to benefit Renopharma, which was backed by the Chinese government financially.
The case, which was disclosed in 2016, is one of the many cases that the Justice Department has tracked in recent years as the distress about the Chinese government conspiring to steal U.S trade secrets worsens.
