The demand for jaguar skin and other body parts in China contributes to the feline’s population reduction in the Americas.
For decades, habitat loss due to deforestation, a lack of natural prey, and rancher retaliation for livestock predation have been among the leading drivers of jaguar population reduction in Central and South America.
Another cause, however, has been threatening the giant cat species’ extinction since the mid-2010s: the illegal sale of jaguar parts intended for China.
