A group of 27 Zimbabwean Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) in January 2022 released a statement titled “Civil Society Statement on Chinese Investments in Zimbabwe: Communities’ Sentiments Should Be Respected,” criticizing Chinese corporations’ activity in the nation.

Chinese enterprises mentioned by the CSOs include “Anjin Mining,” which has not paid its taxes.
According to the think group, they also accused ‘Freestone Mines’ for not performing environmental impact studies to analyze the environmental damage it has caused.
