In 2015, China granted Uganda a $207 million loan through a Chinese bank.
The loan agreement stipulated, among other things, that Entebbe Airport, the only international airport Uganda owns, as well as other Ugandan assets, would be pledged to China. Referring to these original arrangements, China now plans to take over the airport.
A delegation from Uganda traveled to Beijing in the hope of averting a takeover, but without success.
