A report indicates that U.S.-based groups associated with the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) attempted to “steal” the seat of a Korean-American New York State Assembly member.

Ron Kim, a Democrat representing Queens in the State Assembly, told the New York Post, “There were clear signs of foreign influence attempting to sway the election outcome—groups connected to mainland China and the CCP were trying to take the Flushing seat. This is a complex operation, and we’re venturing into dangerous territory. I’m unsure how we can counteract it.”

Kim narrowly won the June primary for the 40th District of the State Assembly by just 443 votes against Yi Andy Chen, who was endorsed by the American Chinese Commerce Association.

The Post reported that the American Chinese Commerce Association is linked to the CCP and is chaired by John Chan, a Chinese-American activist with reported close connections to the People’s Republic of China and its Consulate General in New York.

Kim noted, “Most Asian groups are loyal to American business and capital. However, there is a new wave of organizations connected to the CCP that do not share our values.”

Kim expressed his concerns following the arrest of Linda Sun, a former top aide to Governors Kathy Hochul and Andrew Cuomo. Sun, along with her husband Christopher Hu, faces charges of acting as an unregistered CCP agent, receiving millions in kickbacks, and laundering the funds to purchase a $4.1 million mansion in Manhasset, Long Island, a $2 million luxury condo in Honolulu, and a fleet of high-end cars, including a 2024 Ferrari Roma.
