Cyberwarfare, whether in the form of viruses, misleading information campaigns, or worse, is a vital instrument for any nation state. China is at the forefront of this cyber warfare advancement. Many experts consider China to be the world’s greatest cyber threat. Taiwanese attacks China has used cyberattacks and cyber espionage against Taiwan on numerous occasions. China and Taiwan have had a long and storied connection. Simply put, China considers Taiwan to be its own, which Taiwan refuses. Several cyber attacks are reported to have been launched against Taiwan as part of China’s efforts to recapture the island. For example, in May 2020, Taiwan accused Chinese hackers of initiating a cyber assault against the Taiwan national oil company, the Formosa Petrochemical Corporation, and Powertech Technology in response to Taiwan’s president’s re-election. Many petrol stations were shut down as a result of the breaches, and computer networks across the country were disrupted.
